Hi! I'm Madison. Just like every horse person, I was once a beginner. I have studied at many lesson barns, learning and growing my skills in different disciplines. However, one thing stood out. It wasn't the horseback riding I adored, it was the horses. I would be just as happy brushing the horses or leading them around as I was riding them. Not one lesson barn I went to taught groundwork (working with the horses on the ground), but this is a huge part of horses, not to mention the care, feeding, tacking, and training skills. At Moore Mustangs Horsemanship, we don't just teach students how to ride a horse, we teach them how to care, work, train, and become the best horseman (or horsewoman) they can be!
Location: We are located right between Middleton and Emmett, but are technically in Caldwell, Idaho!
Here at Moore Mustangs, we give personalized lessons to each and every student, meeting your individual needs and goals to the best of our ability. You will learn the WHY we doing things, and the HOW to do it for yourself. We don't just focus on jumping on and riding a horse for an hour, because there is more to it than that. Horses need care, work, and training, and there is so much more you can do with them than just riding! Here you will get the full horse experience. From catching your horse, tacking up, washing, training, groundwork, trail riding, and much more. Each student has their own needs and desires, and we try to meet you there and take you as far as you can, or want, to go. We have worked with autistic students, as well as disabled students, to give them the best horse experience. We work with all ages, young children and senior adults, so everyone is welcome! Check out what we have to offer and what our lessons look like.
Well, you are ready to begin your horse journey, but what will it look like? First, get in contact with us at: (208) 740-4508 (please text). Give me your first and last name, the student's name and age, and what kind of lesson you are interested in. I will get back to you, and we can get your lesson on the schedule! When you arrive for your lesson, park in our driveway behind the railroad ties and for the safety of yourself and other students, please remain in your car until I come to get you at your assigned lesson time. Payment is required upon arrival through Venmo, Cash App, or cash. Then our lesson will begin! Depending on the type of lesson you are taking, the structure may vary, and each lesson may be a bit different. For example, if it is hot in the afternoon, we may spend some time washing the horse. However, if our activities take up more time, we may not get to do as many things as we normally would. For example, we go on a trail ride and it takes longer than intended, you may not get the chance to untack your horse. Check out the average schedule of your desired lesson to see what it looks like!
Weather: If bad weather is severe, lessons can still be held if you wish. If any road conditions become unsafe, let me know, and we can cancel the lesson without a cancellation fee. If you do come out for your lesson, and we cannot work outdoors due to the weather, we will study workbooks, videos, and other horsey resources inside!
When working with horses, having an appropriate wardrobe is critical for both safety and enjoyment.
Helmets: As mentioned below, some students will be required to wear a horseback riding helmet. If your student is really invested in horseback riding, we highly recommend purchasing your own riding helmet for your child. This ensures that the helmet fits and stays fitted properly on your students. However, we do have extra helmets for students to use whenever needed.
Clothing: Jeans are recommended; however, any pants are accepted. Shorts, capris, and skirts are not allowed for riding. T-shirts, tank tops, long sleeves, and sweatshirts are all fine! However, crop tops and similar tops are not recommended because of safety. If you fall, you will have more skin exposed, increasing your chances of injury. You will mainly have to dress according to the weather. If it is cold, bring a coat; if it is hot, bring a hat, etc.
Shoes: Flip flops, sandals, Crocs, and slides are NOT allowed! Do not come to your lesson in these shoes. You will not be allowed to participate in any horse activities. Acceptable shoes include boots, tennis shoes, and any closed-toed shoes. If you plan on regularly taking lessons, you will want to invest in some riding boots. This is the safest option when working with horses, and I highly recommend getting a pair.
Water Bottles: Especially in the summer, we recommend bringing a personal water bottle with you, otherwise, you can drink water from the hose!
Accessories: Keep in mind if you come to your lesson with accessories like jewelry, long nails, bracelets, etc, there is a risk that they may get lost, broken, or dirty. So, to keep your accessories safe, take them off and leave them in your vehicle before the lesson begins.
Miss Muffins is bringing a hula hoop! ... I don't think she read the instructions...
DOGS: Dogs are NOT allowed on the property of Moore Mustangs! If you bring an animal like a dog, cat, or any other pet, KEEP THEM IN YOUR VEHICLE. This keeps our riders, horses, and your personal pet safe. Thank you.

Here at Moore Mustangs, our utmost priority at all times is the safety of our students, handlers/teachers, and horses. We teach you how to safely work around and ride horses, fostering safety techniques and ensuring that your student can handle themselves if something does go south. How you work, act, and present yourself around horses can significantly improve your safety. We teach students to be observant, alert, aware of their surroundings, how to leave/put back things where they found them (always close the gate), and emergency procedures to optimize safety. Even so, at the end of the day, horses are animals, so accidents can happen even if you are doing everything right. Horses are large animals, making them inherently dangerous, and we make this known. You shouldn't be scared of horses, but you must be aware when you are around them. Every adult student, or the parent/guardian of a minor student, is required to sign a waiver of liability. All students under the age of 13 are required to wear a helmet while riding any and all horses at Moore Mustangs. Students 13 and up may opt to have a parent/guardian sign a waiver to ride without a helmet.
According to Idaho Law 6-1802, an equine activity sponsor or an equine professional shall not be liable for any injury to a participant or equine engaged in an equine activity. Please review Idaho's full Limitation of Liability on Equine Activities here.
Sometimes life gets busy, and you won't be able to make it to your lesson. Here at Moore Mustangs, we have a cancellation policy that requires you to notify us about your cancellation at least 24 hours before your assigned lesson. If you cannot notify us, you will still be responsible for paying for your lesson. Ideally, please let me know as soon as possible if you will not be able to attend your lesson. This gives me time to schedule and plan for the future. Thank you!
